All About Coach

Doug Gilman (Coach) has been the State Director of Starbase Vermont since 1996.  In 1998 he worked to create a non-profit charity (Starbase Vermont Inc.) and recruit an all-volunteer board of directors for the corporation.  In 2000 he began taking steps that eventually led to the expansion of the program to two sites in 2002, thereby doubling the capacity of the program to serve more schools in Vermont. 

A native Vermonter, Doug graduated from UVM magna cum laude in 1992.  He recently retired from the Air National Guard with 20 years of military service, combining active duty time in the U.S. Air Force and part-time duty in the Vermont Air National Guard.  His varied experience and educational background includes a combination of science, business, management, personnel, nutrition, and education/training. 

Doug is passionate about being a devoted father for his two daughters, a lifelong fitness and workout guru, and a loyal fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.
