All About Jade
Barb Pennington, aka Jade, received her Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Medicine from Castleton State College in 1999. After spending a summer as a camp counselor, she decided to pursue a career in teaching. Jade went back to school at Castleton and received her Master’s of Education and Vermont Elementary Teaching License in 2004. She began working at Starbase Vermont Rutland in August 2004. As training coordinator, Jade teaches to the Starbase students and works together with Wildflower and Chief with the “behind the scenes” planning and organization of the Starbase Program.
Jade is very busy outside of Starbase as well. She plays a variety of sports including: soccer, ice hockey, cycling, yoga, and rugby. In June 2008, Jade went on a 4-day bicycle trip from Poultney to Quebec riding a total of 208 miles. In addition to playing soccer Jade coaches soccer at the middle school level. She is passionate about incorporating these healthy activities with raising money for important causes. In the past few years she has participated in bike rides, hockey tournaments, and walks that have benefited breast cancer, AIDS, SIDS, and Alzheimer’s disease. Her goal is to complete at least one charity event per year. She also enjoys jewelry-making, strength training, playing video games on her Nintendo Wii and DS, and watching “SpongeBob Squarepants.”
